Torque wrench
Step 3Set the preload
Loosen the stem clamp bolts on the steerer with the Allen keys (or else Multi-tool). Then tighten the top cap bolt a quarter turn at a time, holding the front brake on and rocking the bike back and forth, until the knocking disappears.
Lift the front end: the bar should turn freely, with no tight spot. Line the stem up with the wheel, then tighten its bolts in turn to the printed torque with the Torque wrench.
